Journal Number One: September 15th 2011- On Tuesday night I worked on my first step, I emailed my mentor Robin and asked if she needed any help at this weekend's Gala. She emailed be back saying I could help out on Saturday from noon to five! I am so excited to finally be involved with the Sandy Rollman Foundation and their events I will have to figure out to get there because down in Philly at the Trust, on 4th and Arch Street. I am probably going to take the train, and I am very excited!!
September 17th 2011- Today I went down to the Trust. I took the train from Chestnut Hill East Station and rode all the way to Market Street by myself! I felt so accomplished and proud of myself. I ended up at 12th street and walked to 3rd. It started at 12 and I made it in like twenty minutes, so I sat in Starbucks until 12 and walked over. I then helped out with the Catering and rolled utensils in teal colored napkins! I also helped move stuff around the Trust and up down the elevator. A fun fact I learned about the Trust is that the MTV show Real World Philly was filmed there!
Journal Number Two: September 27st 2011- I went to Sandy Rollman Ovarian Cancer Foundation meeting. Two representatives from Morphotek, which supports Sandy Rollman came and talked about treatment for Ovarian Cancer. I learned about how scorpion fluid can be used for treatment for Ovarian Cancer. It was so interesting. I was there from 6:30 to 8:30pm.
October 7th 2011- I went to the Plank-a-thon down in Germantown which is where you get supported by someone who pays you for how long you plank for, do sit-ups, pull-ups and such things for my mother's friend, Dara who got me involved with Sandy Rollman. Dara is going through treatment and today was a bad day for her. She was very weak and sick looking.
Journal Number Three: October 30th 2011- I got a letter in the mail from Dara thanking me for coming out and helping at the Plank-a-thon. She was talking about how the fall isn't her best time this year. She is really sick from chemotherapy and struggling. I will talk to her soon an about her treatment options and things she did for Ovarian Cancer.
Journal Number Four: November 15th 2011- Next tuesday, there is another Sandy Rollman meeting, that will be more hours. I will see what things I can do to help out. I want to help out in the office and see what it is like to be in the office and such things. At this meeting I learned about a college freshmen when she was 16 who was diagnosed with Ovarian Cancer and 5 years later is surviving.
November 3oth 2011- My mother, Dara and I went to the Sandy Rollman Ovarian Cancer Foundation Shopping Benefit at Sak's. 10% of the proceeds for each purchase went to Sandy Rollman.
I helped Dara out over break around her house and such for more volunteering hours.
Now that my Senior Sem is over with, I still plan to help out with Sandy Rollman and their 5k in April. I am so excited for it!
